Global Childcare Equity Forum: 20 Nations Sign 'Universal Access Accord' to End Care Deserts
Following the G7's historic $50 billion pledge, 20 additional nations joined the Global Childcare Equity Forum in London on June 4, 2026. The summit culminated in the signing of the 'Universal Access Accord,' a binding commitment to eliminate 'childcare deserts'—regions with little to no access to affordable care—by the end of the decade.
The Accord establishes new international standards for childcare quality and affordability, aiming to cap family expenditures at 5% of household income. This global coordination is expected to unlock significant workforce participation among parents who were previously priced out of the labor market.
"We are witnessing a global shift where care is recognized as the backbone of a resilient economy. The London Accord ensures that the progress made by the G7 reaches every corner of the globe," stated Forum Chair Dame Elizabeth Thorne.
